Buskerfest moving to Thorold

KARENA WALTER QMI Agency Niagara After being rejected by St. Catharines city council, the show will go on for Niagara Buskerfest ? in Thorold. Organizer William Montgomery called the move ?bittersweet? Sunday, but said the festival will take place on Front St. over the Aug. 15-17 weekend, the original dates for the event in downtown St. Catharines. ?Thorold expressed an interest in it so I moved it there,? he said. ?My understanding is, after this year, Thorold will continue on with it. ?It is a little bit of a bittersweet decision, but that said, we?re looking forward to it.? Thorold Business Improvement Area secretary treasurer Michael Skrtich said the event is an opportunity for Thorold to show off its downtown. ?Even if half as many people come it will be great to show off our downtown,? he said, noting the awards for facade improvements businesses have received. ?We?ve got a lot of buildings that have been redone and there?s revitalization happening.? Buskerfest was first held in St. Catharines in 2011 by Lyndesfarne Theatre Projects, which moved the festival to Niagara Falls the following year after a request for city funding was turned down. Montgomery of Value Media in Niagara-on-the-Lake then made a pitch to the city to continue a festival in St. Catharines and ran it in 2012 and 2013. CONTINUED > PAGE 2 Bi-Level Beauty!
