Kormos: myth, legend, human being remembered

Maryanne Firth QMI Agency Niagara Peter Kormos feared being forgotten. Well, fear not, Peter. Judging by the showing at Saturday's memorial of family, friends and those whose lives were touched by the outspoken politician, it seems his name has been ingrained into the minds of many. Possibly none more so than Mark Kormos, who opened up to the crowd of more than 1,000 to share personal stories of his big brother, his inspiration. Peter Kormos, the former Welland MPP and Niagara regional councillor, died March 30 at age 60. As Peter was 14 years Mark's senior, the pair did not have a "typical sibling relationship," but that didn't prevent a bond from forming between them. Peter had already begun to "spread his wings" when Mark was finally old enough to realize the impact his older brother was going to have in the community. And that impact did not stop at the family's front door. Mark fondly recalled Peter sitting him down to play him the music that influenced his life, his soul.
